December 31,  2020

Good afternoon,

" God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day."

  Genesis 1:31

In the creation story , it is the end of the working week. On the next day, God rested. I cannot imagine God getting tired. It seems only a human thing to do. But, the text said that God rested. The writing is superb with a rhythm to it,  " and there was evening and there was morning.. ".  They are heavenly words, about the work of God. And then after the seventh day, the world continues on its way. And we will continue tomorrow to live our lives

2020 was quite a year. The creation story has a lot of banging and crashing as God creates. 2020 had much thunder, lightening, flash floods and hurricanes. There is of course the pandemic, the racial riots, the US election. Within these major stories, there are millions of personal chapters that were written on our lives. In that way, 2020 was normal, with tiny personal stories that shape us into the people we become.

Overnight, I turned into a televangelist. After preaching in person for over 30 years, suddenly I am audio preaching. There are few people in the worship space when I am taping, so it is a very different experience. There is no worship leader, and no personal sharing time. And no singing !!!!  I cannot see anyone's eyes . My attempts at jokes are few and far between.  I cannot greet people at the back.  I am exhausted at the end of the sermon in a different way than normal. How do you hear the sermons now ? I find it strange and disturbing. But, I will continue to walk into the pulpit every week. I am sure God will still speak through me.

But God still lives in our world.

Prayer

God,

    Show up in our life

                         tomorrow, next year .

We will trust you.

because you are always faithful. AMEN

See you next year !!!!
